Santa Ana, CA-Advanced Medical Optics Inc. (AMO) has launched its WhiteStar ICE technology for use in its Sovereign phacoemulsification system.

The newly redesigned ultrasonic-energy system and fluid management component allows the surgeon to increase power without increasing energy. Each ICE pulse allows balanced salt solution to flow between the phaco tip and the cataract to accelerate cavitation and improve cutting efficiency.

The system was introduced during the American Academy of Ophthalmology annual meeting last October.
