Optovue debuts iWellnessExam

Fremont, CA-Optovue, an innovator in spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), has launched a wellness program implemented as a “pay-per-visit” arrangement with eye-care clinicians. Known as the iWellness Program, it was formerly called iHealthCheck.

Optovue’s portable new spectral OCT launched in 2010-the iVue-now includes the iWellnessExam. The incorporation of the new iWellness exam, which scans for both retinal and glaucomatous pathology, will complement the everyday comprehensive eye exam. This pay-per-visit model will allow an office to provide better medical care with no capital outlay, the company said.

The iWellnessExam is noninvasive and can be performed as an initial step in a routine comprehensive eye exam. Its images provide a cross-sectional view of the retinal layers with 5-µm resolution. In addition, it provides a retinal thickness map and a ganglion cell complex map.

The iWellness exam is recommended annually, regardless of symptoms, to allow monitoring of any changes occurring over time.
