A new progressive addition lens enters the market

A next-generation progressive addition lens (Definity, Essilor of America Inc.) features proprietary technology (Dual Add 2.0 ) and design in clear (Trivex) material and gray and brown (Transitions VI).

Dallas-A next-generation progressive addition lens (Definity, Essilor of America Inc.) features proprietary technology (Dual Add 2.0 ) and design in clear (Trivex) material and gray and brown (Transitions VI).

“This generation of lens design…features a unique, multi-design technology that provides wider vision across all zones-near, intermediate, and distance,” said Carl Bracy, vice president of marketing for Essilor of America Inc. “Offering this enhanced product in Trivex material is another way to set [the lens] apart and provide increased product options to [eye-care professionals] and their patients.”

Benefits of the lens’ technology include improved design symmetry to see wider in the distance, better alignment to see wider in the intermediate, and inset variation to see wider in the near, according to the company. Material (Trivex) provides a mid-index option, ideal for drill mounts or other frame designs, and is an ideal material choice to combine with the company’s family of lens products, according to Essilor.

As of June 2009, two product lines (Definity and Definity Short) featuring the new technology completely replaced the current lenses in Trivex material, both clear and gray and brown. Essilor offers these lenses in the following product specifications: prescription range -10.00 D to +6.00 D; base curve: 2.00, 3.50, 5.00, 6.50, 7.75, 8.50; and add power: +1.00 to +3.50 and +4.00.
