Johnson & Johnson is expanding the launch of its presbyopia-correcting intraocular lense (IOL), TECNIS Odyssey, in the US.

The TECNIS Odyssey IOL is a new full vision range IOL, built on the TECNIS platform from Johnson & Johnson, which according to the company provides two times better contrast in low lighting than PanOptix.1

Peter Menziuso, company group chairman, Vision, Johnson & Johnson, commented on the launch in a release from the company stating, “More than 14,000 eyes have already benefited from TECNIS Odyssey, our new full visual range IOL. TECNIS Odyssey patients have reported outstanding visual outcomes following surgery, which is why we are excited to announce we are expanding the roll-out across the US. Cataract surgery gives patients a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to improve their sight, and now with this advanced IOL, patients can see clearly at every distance, without the need for glasses.”

TECNIS Odyssey IOLs feature a unique, freeform diffractive surface designed to eliminate the gaps between near, intermediate, and far distances, which offers continuous, uninterrupted vision at all distances, according to the company. Furthermore, 94% of patients who received the IOL were satisfied with their overall vision without glasses.1

In addition to the launch, Johnson & Johnson is launching the “TECNIS Odyssey IOL Peer Connect" which will allow eye care professionals to engage in live virtual clinical discussions, and will help “foster direct and meaningful medical and scientific conversations regarding TECNIS Odyssey IOL between healthcare professionals with expert surgeons who had early access to the technology.”1

In addition to the US, TECNIS Odyssey IOLs have received regulatory approval in Japan, EU, Korea, Canada, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.
