Wendy Lee, MD: Hi, I'm Wendy Lee, oculoplastics in Miami, Florida, at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. I'm really excited about EnVision Summit coming up in February. We've got a great faculty. Our agenda is going to be a mix of functional oculoplastics and aesthetics. So we'll have talks on thyroid eye disease, eyelid malposition, a bunch of things for functional and then we'll go into aesthetics, and we'll talk about different injectables, skin care, and fun stuff. Everything's fun!
I am part of the program committee, so I'm very excited to have been able to put this program together, and we're really looking forward to it. After the aesthetics portion of the didactics, we're going to talk about assessment of facial aging, and then we usually dive into live injections. And so usually we'll have one or two patients, and we'll do live botulinum toxin and dermal filler injections and show how to shape and rejuvenate the face.
The interest for aesthetics is growing in the male population, definitely. It's always been a little bit stronger in the female population. But what I've found over the past 20-something years that I've been doing injectables is that the men are really getting on board with it, because we have defined facial structure between genders better and understand what patients' goals are, and we have lots of different injectable options to either chisel the jawline versus taper it and give it a more heart shape. We're able to tailor rejuvenation for males and females, and what their goals are.
EnVision Summit is an amazing meeting. It's attracted more and more people. There's more and more excitement every year around it. Bonnie An Henderson, MD, has done such a great job creating this family atmosphere and this great educational opportunity, and I'm really excited to see where it goes.
