It can be difficult to navigate the transition from trainee to attending. From navigating billing codes to learning new technology, physicians often encounter a steep learning curve.

Real World Ophthalmology (RWO), founded by Lisa M. Nijm, MD, JD, is dedicated to building a breadth of knowledge for young ophthalmologists as they enter practice. RWO is hosting its 5th virtual, interactive conference titled “Top 10 Things I Wish I Knew Sooner” on Saturday September 30, 2023, from 8 am to 5:30 pm Central Time.

There will be educational forums with opportunities for discussion, questions, sharing ideas, fun trivia questions, and networking. Topics for the conference include maximizing surgical outcomes, vital diagnoses to know as an attending, improving skills in practice, building a practice, and more.

Each session runs between 30 and 60 minutes followed by question and answer with speakers.

Keynote speakers include Paul Lee, MD, JD, glaucoma specialist and senior associate dean for clinical affairs at the Kellogg Eye Center at University of Michigan, and Jane Edmond, MD, pediatric neuro-ophthalmologist, and chair of Dell Medical School Department of Ophthalmology at UT Health Austin.

There will also be a featured session with Jayanth Sridhar, MD, vitreoretinal specialist, and professor at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, who will impart financial advice relevant for all young ophthalmologists.

Agenda:

Session I – Specialty Society Guide to the 3 Diagnoses Every Young Ophthalmologist Must Know

Session II – The Jobs Debate

Session IV – Coding Power Hour with AAOE

Session V – A Cataract Master Class
