Dunfermline, Scotland-Scottish Enterprise, which honors companies and individuals in Scotland who contribute to the global life sciences community, has honored Optos Inc. founder Douglas Anderson.

Anderson, who also serves as executive vice chairman of the retinal imaging company, received the 2004 Scottish Life Sciences Award for a Leading Individual Contribution.

Anderson worked to develop the Optomap retinal exam in 1992, which is used in 1,600 practices throughout the world. The technology was developed after Anderson's 5-year-old son was left blind in one eye when a retinal detachment was detected too late.

The company is based in Dunfermline with North American headquarters in Marlborough, MA.
