If your practice employs opticians, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, or others who teach people who are visually impaired, they may be interested in a new online course from Lighthouse International.
New York City-Lighthouse International now is offering a new online course for opticians, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, or others who teach people who are visually impaired.
The Lighthouse Mult-E-Skills Vision Rehabilitation Training Program is designed to provide a solid framework for understanding the field of vision rehabilitation and illustrate practical techniques for working with people who have partial sight or are blind. Individual lessons cover a wide range of topics from the most common causes of vision loss in adults to improving safety in the home environment to reinforcing the proper use of low-vision optical devices.
The program is designed to be fully accessible to those who are visually impaired as well as those who are sighted. For example, it uses text alternatives for all visual elements and keyboard access to all program elements.
The program offers American Occupational Therapy Association continuing education unit credits. Each two-lesson course in the program can be taken individually for $40 a credit, or the complete program is offered at a 15% discount of $360.
The program is made possible by a federal grant from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research. For more information visit Lighthouse International at http://www.lighthouse.org/for-professionals/continuing-education/multeskills.
