Ligonier, PA-The International Myopia Prevention Association is petitioning the FDA to require eye-care professionals to advise parents of children with initial myopia that distance lenses worsen myopia.

In addition, the group wants parents to be told that myopia could be prevented by wearing reading lenses when using the computer and doing other close work.

The 58-page petition was filed April 28 by Donald Rehm, who founded the association in 1974 to increase public understanding of the causes and treatments available for myopia.
