Sylmar, CA-Second Sight Medical Prod-ucts Inc. (SSMP) has created a partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE) Artificial Retina Project under a cooperative research and development agree-ment.

The agreement, confirmed in mid-October, leverages SSMP's experience in the development of implantable active retinal stimulators, and the technology leadership of five national DOE labs and three universities, in order to hasten the design and development of an advanced retinal prosthetic.

The artificial retina is intended to restore some useful vision to those with advanced forms of outer retinal degenerative diseases. This marks the first time in the history of DOE that so many institutions have joined to work toward a common goal. For more information, visit http://www.2-sight.com/.
