Bascom Palmer, Wilmer Eye top 'Best Hospitals' list for ophthalmology

Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, took the top spot in a U.S. News and World Report "Best Hospitals" ranking, and the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, took the second spot.

“Best Hospitals” ranking, and the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, took the second spot.

The rankings cover 170 hospitals (out of a possible 5,453) in 16 adult specialties, according to the news organization, and 12 of the 16 specialty rankings are driven largely by hard data. For the remaining four, ranking is based on 3 years of nominations by specialists who were surveyed.

Other institutions rounding out the top five ophthalmology rankings are: Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia (third); Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Boston (fourth); and Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles (fifth).
