Advances in cataract surgery driven by technology
The new modified prolate IOL (Tecnis Z9000, Pfizer) may have ushered in a new era in the design of IOLs, suggested speakers at a recent symposium on advances in cataract surgery. The aspherical design used in the Tecnis lens could become the standard within a few years, and, along with new viscoelastic or viscoadaptive devices, should enable surgeons to achieve better results from cataract surgery.
